How to take and resize screenshots

Taking screnshots is definitely something very fun, fast and easy, but some attention is needed in order to do it correctly. This is a basic guide about taking and resizing screenshots - by the end of it, you'll have a screenshot that is ready to be saved on your computer or posted on forums.

There are mainly two ways of taking a screenshot:

1. Print Screen

The Print Screen method is effective when you are taking only one screenshot. Simply hit the PrtScr key on your keybord and you'll have an exact copy of your current screen captured to the clipboard. Then, you can paste (CTRL+V) it on your favorite picture editing program, such as Paintbrush, Photoshop, Fireworks ... Always remember to save it as .jpg, as the filesize will be way smaller! This method requires a picture editing program, which is likely to lower the quality, thus it is not very recommended.

2. Screenshot programs

The other method is to use screenshot programs - they are more efficient because you can take multiple screenshots without returning to Windows and also don't require a picture editor. I have found ScreenGrab to be the most simple yet effective program - please download it by clicking here. Set it up like this:

Make sure your Action field is set to Auto-save to file, this way the program will silently save the screenshot the the Output folder and you can continue playing. Also make sure the Format is set to JPEG - it is the best format to save images and keep the high quality together with a low filesize. A 80~85 JPEG quality is usually enough for screenshots, anything higher than than will make the file too big with no noticeable change in quality. Finally, you can configue the Output folder, where the pictures will be stored and set a custom hotkey to activate the capture.

In game, simply press the configured hotkey and the current screen will be saved as a picture in the specified folder - you can take as many screenshots as you want! After you close the game, your pictures will be available for you at the selected folder.

Resizing pictures

Many picture editors can resize pictures, but if you want to avoid large downloads and unnecessary workload, you can use the free Microsoft Image Resizer Powertoy, available here. After you're done installing it, simply select the file(s) you want to resize, right-click and select the Resize Pictures menu. Then, click on Advanced, check both boxes, select Medium size (800x600) and click OK. Your screenshot was now resized!

Now you know how to take and resize screenshots. Take some time to upload your pictures to our gallery or forums!
